Reflection

In this sculpture, titled Reflection, I emphasize the physical form to explore self-perception and transformation. The figure is distinctly feminine, rendered in wax to suggest fragility and impermanence, contrasting with its exaggerated physicality. This overemphasized bodily form invites questions of identity shaped by external and internal influences, prompting viewers to consider how we construct and deconstruct our own physical selves.

The torso undergoes a transformative treatment, bridging the boundary between the physical and metaphysical. This transfiguration symbolizes the fluid nature of identity, as the figure seems to evolve mid-gesture, an echo of the mutable self. The body, while grounded in physicality, points toward the elusive, hinting at layers of personal and societal expectations that we carry and reshape over time.

Atop this figure sits a small mirror, positioned to capture and reflect the surrounding environment. This element draws the viewer into the work itself, suggesting that the self is shaped not only by inner dynamics but also by the reflections and perceptions of the external world. Here, Reflection serves as a portal, where the self is both solid and shifting, shaped by the presence of others and the world that witnesses it.
