Contemplation

In Contemplation, I evoke the serene reverie of a woman immersed in profound introspection, echoing the style and sentiment of Caspar David Friedrich’s iconic works. Positioned in quiet harmony with the divine landscape around her, she sits enveloped in vibrant, violet tones, a color of deep spirituality and transcendence. The radiant pigments, applied through the ancient medium of encaustic, preserve this moment with a timelessness that defies the passage of time, allowing her contemplative gaze to extend into eternity.

Plutarch’s words, 'In the heart of an indifferent man, a beautiful woman’s image is fleeting, like a reflection in water; but in the heart of a lover, the image is fixed with fire, like an encaustic painting that time does not erase,' resonate profoundly with this medium. The wax binds the pigments, rendering the colors unfading and immutable, mirroring the steadfast essence of true contemplation and devotion. As with an encaustic painting, this woman’s thoughts are captured in a manner that is both permanent and alive, fixed in the medium’s enduring glow.
